ROVIN CERAMICS was founded in 1957 by Vince and Rose Thomas, hence
the name "ROVIN". Vince was a potter who began making his own
clay for personal use. Fellow students at The Center for Creative
Studies liked his clays and asked if they could buy some from
him. He initially set up operation in his garage, and eventually
moved to a store front location in Dearborn, MI. At that time,
ROVIN CERAMICS was one of the first pottery supply businesses
in the country.
In 1984, Ron and Barbara Ruth purchased certain parts of the company
and moved to a 25,000 SF facility in Taylor, MI. Over the years,
new clay processing equipment was added to improve production
and quality. In 1992, our daughter, Stephanie Keene, joined us
at Rovin's, bringing with her a BFA in Ceramic Art from Alfred
University. Ron's background in ceramics is a BS in Ceramic Engineering
from the University of Illinois. Barbara's many years of retail
experience adds a "people" approach to a company determined to
put the customer first. Our son, Derek, owns a web design company
in Los Angeles, CA, (www.3loop9.com) and is the motivating force
behind the design and implementation of this web site, including
the origination of our new logo. In addition, Stephanie's husband,
Tony also owns a web design company in Ann Arbor, MI (www.arborlink.com).
The collaboration and talents of these two guys in putting this
web site together is truly appreciated.
As you can see, we are a family owned and operated business. Our
goal is to supply superior products at fair prices, combined with
first rate service at all times. Our Mission Statement tells it
all.
