ROVIN CERAMICS was founded in 1957 by Rose and Vince Thomas, hence
the name "Rovin". Vince was a potter who began making
his own clay for personal use. Fellow students at The Center for
Creative Studies liked his clays and asked if they could buy some
from him. He initially set up operation in his garage, and eventually
moved to a store front location in Dearborn, Michigan. At that
time Rovin Ceramics was one of the first pottery supply businesses
in the country.
In 1984, Ceramic Engineer, Ron Ruth and
his wife Barbara purchased certain parts of the company and moved
Rovin Ceramics to a 25,000 square foot facility in Taylor, Michigan.
Stephanie Keene, a graduate of Alfred University’s ceramic
program, joined Rovin in 1992.
On April 22, 2011 Rovin was sold to Nawal
Motawi, owner of Motawi Tileworks, its largest customer. Ms. Motawi
moved the company to 253 Dino Drive, Ann Arbor, Michigan near
the Tileworks.
The mission at Rovin Ceramics
is to make really good ceramic ingredients available;
while providing great customer service.
